The Haemophilia Patients and Parents Support Group (HePPS_G) is a Non Governmental Organisation working on a national scale to improve and sustain treatment of people with haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders.


HePPS_G was registered with The Registrar of Associations on the 18th December 2008 bearing Registration No: 10712.

Participants who wish to help raise funds for the Haemophilia Patients and Parents Support Group should contact the association or the Ferney Trail team.

  1. What is Haemophilia?
    Haemophilia is one of the most common bleeding disorders, in which the blood does not clot normally. A person suffering from haemophilia, when injured bleeds for a longer duration than a normal healthy individual. There are also chances of re-bleeding at the affected sites. Bleeding, if it occurs internally, is a severe life-threatening condition, which can lead to tissue, joint and organ damages. Haemophilia is caused due to the lack or absence of proteins, called blood clotting factors. It can be inherited genetically or acquired during the lifetime of an individual.
  2. Who are the beneficiaries of HePPS_G and some statistics?
    Haemophilia patients, their families and the population at large will benefit from this project.

    Haemophilia affects more than 400,000 people worldwide. More than 75 cases of haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders have been reported in Mauritius. However, minimal information about this disorder is available.

    Today, more than 75% of the global bleeding disorders community receives either inadequate or no treatment whatsoever.
  3. What are the objectives of HEPPS_G?
    • To create awareness amongst the public on haemophilia.
    • To advocate for a haemophilia treatment care center.
    • To raise funds and support patients suffering from haemophilia.
    • To network with similar associations on the local, regional and international level.
